No matter what type of interview that is, Majority if not all will say that this is one of the most nerve wracking experience that they had in their entire life, which is true. Whether it is your first time to experience an interview or you had experience it multiple times, you will still feel the butterfly in your stomach, roaming around, and this bother’s you and will make you out of focus.

I feel you! And you are not alone. That feeling is always present when the interview start and that will slowly disappear depending on how you manage yourself during the interview. Is there a way to avoid that feeling on set of the interview? The answer is no, but if you are going to ask me if there is a way to slow get away on that feeling, well the answer is yes. This is the first step on how to ace an interview.

I asked all my friends who experienced being interviewed on a certain position that applied too, on how to get away on that feeling and start gaining their confidence during the interview, and here’s what they shared.

“Being nervous on the very first part of the interview is normal but I was able to gain my confidence when I started not thinking that they are an interviewer. I look at them as someone close to me and I didn’t expect that it worked”

“I can still remember the time when I almost cried because my heart almost burst due to nervousness. What I did? I just inhale and exhale three times and that helped me compose myself, and started gaining my confidence”

- Unknown Respondent

“I normal speak in a normal phase but when I get nervous, I speak too fast and that happened whenever I am interviewed for a job position. It was hard for me to control myself when I am already on that situation, but what I learned which I applied on the succeeding interviews that I attended was to speak slowly and pause for few seconds to organize your thoughts before you say it. It takes time to master that piece but once you get used to it, it is definitely helpful to get away that nervousness.”

These people are intelligent and well prepared in terms of the information that they need for an interview, but no matter how knowledgeable you are, and how prepared you are, Once the nervousness kick in, you have to deal with it and transform it to confidence. If you successful pass that part of the process you are one step ahead of others.

Learn from your previous interview sessions and think of a technique or strategy that will help you get away with that butterfly in your stomach. You can try and apply those shared experiences above and see if it will work for you. At the end of the day what really matters is that you leverage on your strength, discover your own technique on how to gain your confidence during interview, and lastly, convert your weakness into strength.

Aside from searching about the company where you will apply to, and being knowledgeable with the position you are interested to get, you have to be physically, and mentally prepared as well. Interview is a battle that is physically exhausting and mentally draining, especially if you are applying for higher position. So, here are some of the tips that you can apply prior in attending an interview.

Visualize Success. Being optimistic to everything that you do influence positive results. It is normal to have some doubts but you have to believe in yourself and tell yourself that you can do it. Some people will do this in front of the mirror prior to their interview.

Eating the Right Amount of Food. You have to make sure that you eat the right amount of food prior to your interview. This helps you optimize your performance in the job interview. Don’t it too much as it could make you feel drowsy.

Get Enough Sleep. Having enough sleep will help your body and mind to be prepared to what you are about to do for the day. Although, this is one of the preparation that is hard to achieve if you are thinking too much of your interview. Try to clear your mind and stop thinking about the interview, and focus on getting enough sleep for you to have enough energy for your interview.

Exercise Prior to your Interview. Condition your body by doing some basic exercise before the interview. This will help you release endorphins and relieve stress which is what you need prior to your interview. In addition, exercise give you a brighter look and help you be more receptive to questions.
